Location Management
Overview
Locations allow you to track exactly where each asset is physically situated. Uslimato uses a three-level hierarchy: Building → Floor → Room / Zone. Locations can be assigned to assets manually or automatically via a process step binding.
Location Hierarchy
| Level | Examples |
|---|---|
| Building | Headquarters, Warehouse Berlin, Branch Munich |
| Floor | Ground Floor, 1st Floor, Basement |
| Room / Zone | Server Room, Office 3.12, Storage Area A |
Every location belongs to exactly one parent (except top-level buildings). When viewing a location, the full path is displayed — for example: Headquarters / 1st Floor / Office 3.12.
Managing Locations (Admin)
Navigate to Locations in the sidebar. The page lists all locations in a tree view.
Admin users can:
- Create a building, floor, or room using the New Location button
- Edit a location's name by clicking the edit icon
- Delete a location — only possible if it has no child locations and no assets currently assigned to it
Each location entry shows how many assets are currently assigned to it.
Assigning a Location to an Asset
Manually:
- Open the asset detail page.
- Click Edit (pencil icon).
- Select a location from the Location dropdown — you can search by building, floor, or room name.
- Save the asset.
Via a Movement Process:
If a process step is bound to the location field in the Process Editor, completing that step during a movement automatically writes the selected location to the asset. This is the recommended approach for bulk location updates (e.g. during a room move).
Filtering Assets by Location
On the Assets page, use the Location filter to show only assets at a specific building, floor, or room. Child locations are included — filtering by a building shows all assets on every floor and in every room within that building.
Deleting Locations
A location cannot be deleted if:
- It has one or more child locations (floors or rooms beneath it)
- One or more assets are currently assigned to it
Reassign or move all assets and remove all child locations before deleting a parent location.
