Inventory & data
Catalog & models
Manufacturers, models and asset types are maintained centrally in the catalog. Standardized master data ensures consistent reports and faster intake.
#Why a catalog?
If every device is labelled freely, the data drifts apart – "MacBook Pro", "MBP 14" and "Apple notebook" mean the same thing but can't be cleanly analyzed. The catalog provides a common basis.
#Manufacturer, model, type
The catalog has three levels: manufacturer (e.g. Apple), model (e.g. MacBook Pro 14" M3) and asset type or category (e.g. notebook). During intake you simply pick – master data is carried over.
#Day-to-day maintenance
New models can be added right during intake. So the catalog grows organically with the inventory, with no upfront maintenance needed.
